In the past week I have:
1. Been found on Facebook by someone I worked with more than 10 years ago
2. Been told that my blog was found through a Google search
3. Received an email from a college friend I hadn't spoken to in years
4. Fallen on my butt, resulting in a stair-step shaped series of bruises (but that is neither here nor there).
Apparently, cyber-stalking season is here and I am flattered. I find it odd that people are interested enough to seek out my little rantings, but it's also quite nice. And a reminder that I haven't posted in ages. Here's a quick recap...
Work.
School.
Boyfriend.
House.
iPhone Obsession.
Friends.
Birthday & Bruises on the Butt**
That's about it really, life is full of fun.
**I turned 31 last month and as part of his 3-part birthday-surprise-extravaganza, R took me to wine country for a nice weekend escape that was just what I needed. Unfortunately, a day full of booze and slippery stairs were not.

Brrrr
Holy Crap it is cold today! I guess fall has crept in already, which makes me want to curl up with a book by the fire. I should at least change the filter on the heater because I think I'm going to have to crank that guy up real soon.
I'm officially 30 today and don't really feel any different. My left hip/groin region is stiff from the roller skating party on Saturday - they really should change directions more often. But I'm very impressed that not one of us old people fell or broke a bone. It was a great. And Miss White Trash was a good time as well, a few of the girls actually participated and afterwards we went over to Embers to watch the Drag shows. Lots of fun.
Not sure what is on the docket for today. I was thinking of grabbing a nice cup of coffee and going up to the dog park but it's been pouring down rain and is probably one big mud puddle. I need to return my financial aid paperwork and books - I had some seriously doubts when I saw the loan amounts on paper and got the estimate on books... e-ghads... but I really want to do this Maybe I'll take a nice leisurely drive down to campus and then go shopping with all the lovely gift cards I got this week! Whee Hee!
And then I gotta find me a job!

Google this, b*tch
Google your name and see what comes up. Just do it.
Fortunately, the first thing that comes up for me is my linkedin profile, nothing bad there and says a lot about my work ethic. Next is my facebook page which, fortunately, requires a password to view. Beyond that, the only time I pop up us in guest letters or mentions in obits. Most prominently regarding my grandad John, an amazing man that left behind an incredible footprint in Alaskan history and perhaps history in general.
The youngest of six, he grew up with a bunch of teenage ladies running the show, and yet, when I met the man, no one would dare move unless it was okay by JPB. When I was little I remember being terrified by my grandad- he was never soft or cuddly and he had a lot of big, dead animals lying around the house. Like Polar Bears. Skinned. In the Living Room.
But, as I got older, he got a a bit softer and more approachable. I wasn't around enough to ever really get to know him but I'm still fascinated and impressed by his life and his work. He devoted his retirement to historicizing the pioneers of Alaska (my family included) as well as devoting his time to identifying the owners of over 3000 unmarked graves in the Anchorage cemetery, earning him his own gate complete with a bronze statue. From what I gather, it's bad luck to pass my grandads little face and not touch his nose which is why it will forever be shining.
I remember at a family reunion not being able to get to him because there was a line of 50 people trying to talk to him (literally). And I remember his laugh -one of those laughs that "fill up the room." But what I remember most is his sense of humor during his final days. I was lucky enough to have been there before he left and I remember one of the last things he ever said. Racked with cancer, all he wanted to do was go home. My cousin L & I were in the elevator with him during a very personal conversation with the EMT's about his bowels and afterwards he pulled us close and said "Let me tell you a secret..." We got quiet and waited for some sort of deep guidance or family story, but what we got were these never truer words:
"Don't ever get old, it sucks."
God Bless, and Happy Birthday to me!!

Indian Summer
It's getting warm and I couldn't be happier. It's amazing how productive I am on a nice sunny day... imagine what a rockstar I would be if I lived in California. Anyway, after a weekend full of fun events I'm in a great mood. I attended a pub crawl, a dinner party and took two trips to the movie theatre. Go see Burn After Reading if you haven't done so, it was great. Vicky Christina Barcelona did not impress near as much.
So far this week I've applied for six jobs and had a skills test with a local temp agency. Turns out my typing is great but my spelling not so much. Yesterday I had a weigh-in and lost another 1.5 lbs so I should hit the 20lb mark in the next week if I play my cards right. Afterwards I had a nice lunch at New Seasons with V and got some of the hot office gossip. I've managed to avoid turning on the TV at all during the days, which is good considering the insane addict-ability of HGTV. Thankfully I have free internet (yeah neighbors!) and a full iTunes library. I really don't need much else to live on.
Since I'm home all the time I've realized that I need to start setting weekly goals to keep on track. So, here is my plan for the week:
• Apply for a minimum of one job per day
• Download & print class syllabi, order books
• Attend lap swim or upgrade to jogging. I'm not built for speed so I'm leaning towards the pool although it requires putting a swimsuit. Tough call.
• P/U library books on writing business plans and .commerce
• Complete 20 e-cards & upload for my awesome web guy to play with
• Catch up on my design blogs
• Research uterus removal procedures - I'm tired of the damn cramps... there has to be something that can be done about this nonsense.
• Take Sabine to the dog park, it makes her so happy
• Turn 30!! I guess I'm officially an adult now. Yeah!

Winco
Maybe it's just me, but every time I leave Winco I feel like taking shots. And why is it that my cell phone always rings the minute I start bagging my groceries?
Speaking of white trash... The Miss White Trash 2009 Pageant is coming and we will be attending for my birthday. Watch your inbox for an invite and if I missed you let me know. The address box feature on evite is a bit wonky.
