It's been brought to my attention that I am seriously slacking on the correspondence lately so here is a run-down of the haps. I'm using a few bits of an email I sent to my dad, so sorry for the regurgitation pops.
Work: I've been planning our sales meeting on Tuesday, which entails finding and securing event space for 150 people, coordinating catering and hotel rooms and building powerpoint presentations. My boss frequently like to change the plan which means I spend a good portion of my time chasing my tail and making apologetic phone calls. I'm also building a new website for our sales team which is really fun but also trying because I haven't done it since college and, wouldn't you know it, the whole web thing has really changed. I'm teaching myself CSS and relearning HTML... it's fun though. Oh, and they've started laying people off so I guess I should be thankful, no matter how much time I spend silently crying in my cube.
School: This term has proven to be more challenging than last but I'm still really enjoying it. I had a paper due last week that kept me up past midnight for a week strait but I learned a lot about Facebook. Yes, I got to write a paper about Facebook! This week I will be working on a financial analysis of Target.. turns out I got some pretty wicked math skills from my dad and I'm not too shabby at the accounting stuff, although I am still learning what the results mean - i.e. is it good or bad if the dividend ratio is high? I guess I'll figure that out Saturday when I sit down to write. The first day of my accounting class I was pretty sure I was going to die a slow death from boredom but my instructor has turned out to be a pretty funny guy and does a really good job of explaining the concepts.
Life: Let's see, Sabine passed in December and I'm still struggling with that - not that I cry on a daily basis, but it's weird to come home to an empty house. I've been thinking of getting a new pooch but know it would be better to wait until after my trip to China in June. I've paid for a little over half the trip and am considering investing in Rosetta Stone language tapes so I can be little more prepared than I was in Korea. We will have tour-guides, but its always nice to be able to do basic items.. like find the bathroom.
I was rear-ended by a cargo van on my lunch break a few weeks ago and he did more damage to my neck and back than he did to my car. He claimed he was going about 5 miles an hour but considering he destroyed the steel reinforcement beam on the back of my car I beg to differ. Anyway, I get to go to the chiropractor and get massages three times a week for the next twelve weeks. I've also started seeing a naturopath/ accupuncturist/ hippy doctor and really like her. The irony of the whole injury is that i was on my way to join the gym when I was hit. R and I were planning to run a 5k next month but it looks like I may be walk/jogging it... I'm still down 35 pounds but stalled and need to lose more so I need to up the exercise.
Still seeing the boy, going on 5 months now, which is a record for me. He is still wonderful - can't complain about a man that cooks and occasionally vacuums your house, even if it is might be because your house is so disgusting he can't stand it.
And that's about it. Have a Christmas party to attend tomorrow (our office party was cancelled due to weather) and might go to the closing party at Jerry's, everyone's favorite wine bar. I'm pretty sad that they are closing. Stupid economy.

Life is Good
I wish I was motivated to blog more, looking back on posts is a fun little reminder of where I've been. It seems like life has just gotten a little crazy busy and the blog has fallen into the permanent "to do" pile. Along with that pile is my sadly forgotten kitchen, my diet & exercise program and the eCards website. Slowly I'm trying to get back on top of things.
Classes started up again this week and it's going to be a long semester - my accounting instructor is about as lively as someone that has a masters in finance from Cal could be, and my eCommerce instructor spent four hours talking about the engineering structure of the internet, illustrated with a lot of evil little WAN clouds. Should be interesting.
Last night was the boys birthday party, which was supposed to a bowling bash but due to some very shady business practices, we ended up at the Alibi for karaoke and cocktails. Today I spent most of the day relaxing on the sofa watching TV, downloading spreadsheets for accounting and now we are heading to X's for a dinner party. Since I had an eight hour class yesterday I don't feel like I had much of a weekend - how do people keep their houses clean?
I'm rambling, but the goal of the week is to start back on the exercise regime and to do some work on the eCards. Maybe I'll even manage to wash some dishes!

Why do I even bother?
A few years ago I put a personal up on a local dating site. I have a friend that has had some success there but, sadly, I have not fared as well. I think I need to just take my profile down because it's getting a bit silly.
Let's see, first we had John who said he was 5'7" but was indeed shorter than I am (5'2"). I get it, you are insecure about your height - but don't flat out lie. 5'7"? Not even in stilettos buddy. He was, however, a very dedicated recycler and strongly believed that everyone should sell their cars and ride a bike. He had carnie hands, was very jumpy and lived with 5 guys in Gresham. I couldn't get the idea of meth labs and dog fights outta my head.
Next was Brian. Brian was very nice and I enjoyed meeting him, but he was ENORMOUS. Not fat, just gigantic. I'm talking Andre the Giant sized. He was about 6'6" and nearly 300 lbs. I couldn't even hug him from my tippy toes. He also happened to be a nurse and I thought he seemed "a little light in the loafers" so I let him know I only wanted to be friends. He declined my offer.
Next was Nick. Nick was super cute and, of course, a total douchebag. On our second date he said something about "my personality being my best trait." It wasn't what he said, but the way he said it... kinda like the way gramma used to say "you'd be so pretty if you just lost a little weight." And yet, I continued to date him. Let's just say it didn't end well.
Last spring was James. James seemed promising, he worked for a non-prof and we had similar interests in movies and music. But man was he jumpy. On the first date I chalked it up to nerves and so we met for dinner. The conversation was good but he was talking really fast and constantly glancing around like he was being watched. About halfway through the meal he asked for the check, paid and had his food bagged. He just could not get out the door fast enough. It was very odd but I left for Korea the next week so no biggie.
Tonight was Bob. I was looking forward to meeting him - he just returned from a year living in Scotland and I wanted to hear about his travels. We exchanged several emails about going to the Moon & Sixpence for a pint. When I suggested we meet on Thursday at 7 he responded "great, but where shall we go?" Ummmmmmm....really? Okay, whatever, he's probably talking to like 15 girls on here and just got confused. Anyway, I was there at 7 and he was not. And still not there at 7:30. I guess I've officially been stood up for the first time. Bummer, but it's probably just as well - I had my eyebrows waxed yesterday and I've developed a little ridge of horns right across my forehead. Lovely.
To top my night off I went to the Interstate Fred Meyer to get dog food. Normally I try to avoid that FM because the parking lot is a nightmare and it's always a madhouse. But it was on my way home and Sabine is a hungry girl so I stopped. Dear me, I don't know what was going on tonight but the place was crawling with crazies. It's like they posted a "free meth" ad in the local paper. In the dog food isle some nutcase nearly knocked me over as he carried 16 bag of dogfood down the isle talking to himself. Then some other lady was mumbling to herself, scratching her forearms and had this half-dead zombie smile on her face while she read every one of the cat food labels. Seriously weird.
I think I'm going to go watch a movie in bed. And tomorrow I'm going over to Miss V's house to watch Psyche & Jason Statham movies and entertain her. She's having her wisdom teeth removed and will hopefully be delightfully loopy on Vicodan. Hooray for not working!!

Freedom
My last day was somewhat uneventful. I passed most of my work off earlier in the week so I just had to clean out my computer and pack up my desk. We had a little lunch party with the PA group, which was nice, and I gave everyone one last hug. As I was leaving my cube for the last time Hurricane literally came running over to say goodbye, which made my day.
Miss V helped me get my stuff in the car and gave me my final hug. It wasn't until I got out of the parking lot that I fully lost it and had to pullover to cry. The truth is, no matter how much I've struggled with my job, I absolutely adore my coworkers and it feels a bit like leaving home. I have no doubt that I made the right choice for me, but it still hurts.
So, today is the first day of my unemployment adventure and I'm allowing myself to mourn just a little bit. Starting tomorrow I will be productive and will do things like clean my house and pay the bills or paint my kitchen and make plans for the future. But today, I am still like a vegetable and I'm throughly enjoying doing nothing. Thankfully Law & Order is always on somewhere.

Busy
This week has been a busy one... on Saturday I met a co-worker for breakfast and then I spent the hot, beautiful evening celebrating new beginnings with friends and eating ate out on the patio. On Sunday, two of my cronies from high school came into town and we met for bunch. Have I mentioned before that I love brunch? I mean, breakfast & lunch at the same meal? Genius.
It was slightly awkward since we hadn't seen each other in nearly ten years, but it was great to catch up and talk trash about our classmates (kidding). In the afternoon was a bridal shower for a coworker. I spent a good portion of the time thinking about how much I'm going to miss my friends at work. But I'll just have to work harder to see them outside these walls!
All in all, a fabulous weekend but I did a real number on my diet. I had bacon, cake and booze. So, imagine my surprise when I weighed in on Tuesday and lost two pounds!! That brings my total with MRC to eleven pounds in about 4 weeks. Added to the five I had lost before I started the program, I'm down sixteen pounds. Whoo-hooo! I'm well on track to make my birthday goal - two pants sizes- and to meet my total goal of fifty-five pounds by new year.
I was also pretty excited that Dr. Atack got me in for a teeth cleaning. Isn't that the most hysterical name for a dentist? He's really quite gentle... anyway, they worked a little magic to get me in before my insurance is gone and it's a good thing too because it seems I have a little baby cavity. Right next to my little baby (freaky) extra tooth. But that is another story for another time.
Finally, I had an informational interview last night with another recruiting agency and have a pretty good feeling about the company. The situation was highly entertaining - during the group meeting they ask a few standard questions... what kind of work are you looking for, where do you see yourself in three years, who's your daddy, etc. Because the agency focus is on recent grads and young professionals, several of the kids in my group were, shall we say, a bit awkward. There was one guy in particular that I just wanted to pat on the head and tell him life would get better. But my favorite was the little accounting major whose dream job is to be a controller. Bless his little heart.
